In just a few short years, Twitter – and Instagram for that matter – have quickly moved from this ‘quirky-hipster’ kind of technology to a powerhouse social media platform used to promote awareness on so many different issues. The hashtag, in all its simplicity, has been rebranded as a conversation starter. Whatever you choose to put behind the hashtag symbol has the potential of driving a conversation to the next level and before you know it, you’ve joined a movement you care about all from the comfort of your smartphone.

But is it enough? How does this platform get people off their devices and connect to people on the ground? As a blogger or thought leader, how can you effectively engage your audiences on these issues? Most importantly, how do you balance your personal and professional life/view without alienating your audience?

With all that is happening in the country, this conversation is essential. We carefully curated a group of social media influencers in our community to lead the conversation: #Hashtag Activism during Blogalicious Weekend.
